"Instant Road" is a Ruby-based script designed for Trimble SketchUp. Its primary purpose is to automate the creation of roads and similar linear structures on terrain surfaces. The biggest advantage of this tool is its ability to intelligently interact with complex, triangulated landscapes (often called TINs or "Sandbox" meshes), automatically calculating cut and fill operations to make the road fit the terrain realistically.
Creating realistic roads, highways, and pathways within SketchUp can be one of the most time-consuming tasks for 3D modelers and landscape architects. While manual modeling is possible, it is inefficient and often produces imprecise results, particularly when trying to follow complex, undulating terrain.
